Project Description
This project aimed to streamline the existing data-entry process when creating new referral files. The original process involved entering data manually into a Word document, printing the new referral page, and creating a physical folder to hold these documents. The physical aspect of this protocol created a bottleneck in how much could be processed in a given day and made the tracking progress of these files significantly longer.
Using standard front-end and back-end practices, I built a custom data-entry web app using Google Apps Scripts, consolidating all the steps of creating a new referral file. The web app would take the entered data and generate a digital folder with all the necessary files as well as automatically update the tracking sheet all in one step. This new system automatically eliminated the extra steps that were limiting productivity and led to a more organized way of handling new referral information.
This system also gave administrators a bird’s eye view of all the patients and improved the file review process with customized alert messages and other on-screen feedback to let administrators know what steps to take next with each record.
As of 2024, this system is still being used and we are looking for ways to improve the service even further.
